A very warm welcome to the latest R.O.A.R. Squad members: Librarian and blogger Cynthia and her dogs Charlie, Trouper, Lucy, Buster and Oliver!
Dogs: Charlie, 5 years (Pit Bull/Shiba Inu X); Trouper, 12 years (Border Collie); Lucy, 12 years (Mini Aussie); Buster, 12 years (Parson Russell Terrier); Oliver, 4 months (Hound X)
Cynthia’s Story: I’ve been volunteering at PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) in Norwalk, CT for six years. I absolutely love working with the animals there, both dogs and cats. I started out as a dog walker, and still volunteer in that capacity. I also act as a manager every-other weekend. I do adoption counselling, I work on fundraising activities, help when there are medical emergencies, and roll up my sleeves to scoop poop and clean the kennels or cat rooms. I’m a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and I try to train some of the pooches when I get the chance. If it’s to help the dogs and cats, I’m willing to do it!
Stop Means Go: Charlie is from PAWS. He was found tied to a stop sign when she was 10 weeks old. What kind of creep does that to a puppy? I fell in love with her silly ears which were propped on top of her head. They later fell to halfway down her head – very strange. Charlie thinks she’s the boss, but she’s really Chicken Charlie. Everything scares her.
Dogs Aren’t Shoes (Exactly!!! I just went on about that here!): Buster is from Russell Rescue. We were his third family and he was only 9-months-old! His previous family decided to “switch to poodles.” Huh? Dogs aren’t shoes. Buster is the strong silent type. Silent unless he’s whining, that is. He usually hangs in the wings, whining for attention. He makes a good poster dog for any rescue; big brown eyes, sad face, and WHINY!
The Wanderer: Trouper is from New England Border Collie Rescue. NEBCR found him wandering a suburb of Boston. I knew Lucy (our Mini Aussie from a breeder) needed a friend, and I always wanted a Border Collie; rescue was the way to go and NEBCR didn’t let me down with this handsome devil! Trouper is nicknamed Casanova because he’s the lover in the group, the 50 lb. lap dog. He would lick your face off if you’d let him. But don’t let him. He’s also called The Poop Eater.
Crazy Dog Lady: Finally, there’s Oliver, also known as Ollie. He’s only 4 months old and he stole my heart just recently. He had come into PAWS with six other pups, and he was skinny as a rail – just skin hanging on a 10-week-old puppy’s frame. He immediately got very sick with an upper respiratory tract infection. He nearly didn’t make it, and spent a few touch-and-go nights at the vet’s. That’s when I knew no one else could take my Ollie! So yes, I am now officially The Crazy Dog Lady!
