R.O.A.R. Squad: Elisa and Andy and their dogs Moxie and Liam
Welcome to the R.O.A.R. Squad! Elisa (plant biologist) and her fiance Andy, have two beautiful pups, Moxie and Liam. I love that these guys have a wee little dog and a great big dog. Having a chihuahua cross and a pitbull cross in my family, it always makes me smile to see families with completely different kinds of dogs.
Thank you for joining the Squad, guys!

Human Family Members: Elisa Leyva-Guerrero and my fiance Andy Keppler
Dog Family Members: Moxie (dacshund) and Liam (rottweiler)
About Elisa and Andy: We have two rescue dogs and we foster for the St. Louis Senior Dog Project. I (Elisa) am the official twitterer for this group @STLSeniorDog
First Foster Failure: Moxie was our first foster failure, we started fostering him on January 2010 and by February made him a permanent addition to the family. He came to us as a puppy mill rescue and I am so happy to see the improvements in him.
Love at First Sight: Liam was adopted at our local Humane Society he had to be given up by his owner, a disabled vietnam veteran that had originally rescued him from a breeder, due to financial and health problems. When my fiance first saw him he fell in love with him and adopted him then and there.
A Lot to Love: When we first adopted Liam he was a whopping 120 pounds (he has since lost some weight) and Moxie was 12 pounds ( he has since gained some weight! ). We were both really concerned about Liam sitting or stepping on Moxie. We were really truly amazed that Liam was so careful with his movements when Moxie was around, he would gracefully jump over him or do a strange dance step to avoid stepping on him. In the end we realized we didnt have to worry about a thing and just let them be!
Moxie Has Moxie: Another interesting thing is that Moxie is actually the alpha dog. Being a dachshund and now knowing many other dachshunds I am not surprised at all of this. But he was my first dacshund and so I was not expecting him to actually make Liam fall in line. Moxie is also quite the ladies man, every single girl dog we foster has fallen deeply in love with him!

I love big and little dog combos. It provides for hours of entertainment
@Kari- I agree! It’s always funny when the small one is the boss- that’s how it is in our house
Great story! I especially love the last picture of Moxie. I did notice that, although they are not size coordinated, the pups are color coordinated, providing some symmetry.
Senior dog adopters — and fosterers — rock!
@Edie- I totally agree!
The caption under Moxie’s last photo is the best take on the Old Spice guy EVER! I want to bathe Pru in whatever Moxie is bathing in
@Ashley- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NOTICING! I was KEEELING myself laughing when I wrote that. And I changed it a dozen times trying to get right. I’M A DORK! HEAR ME ROAR!
