R.O.A.R. Squad: Leesia and Corey and their dogs, Becks, Ellie and Sienna

I’ve been working on the R.O.A.R. Squad for almost 6 months now and one of the things I am struck by is just how much we love our dogs. How much they wind themselves into our lives and our hearts and for many of us change the direction we thought our lives were headed in.

Take Leesia, our latest R.O.A.R. Squad member: This photo makes me smile every time I look at it! Leesia didn’t grow up with dogs but once she invited dogs into her home she went ahead and focused her career so she could be around animals all the time (she is now a pet photographer in the Atlanta area).  How great is that?

A huge welcome to Leesia and Corey- so great to have you part of the R.O.A.R. Squad!

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Leesia Teh & Corey Jung

Photogenic Pups: Becks (Golden Retriever/ Dachshund), Elllie (Corgi/ Beagle) & Sienna (Italian Greyhound/ Chihuahua)

24/7: I’m a professional dog photographer ( http://www.leesiateh.com ) based out of Atlanta who didn’t discover the joys of having dogs at home until adulthood! So we went from having 0 dogs to 3 in four years and making a career out of a desire to be around dogs 24/7 – what I lack in time I’m making up for in intensity! (Corey is just along for the ride, ha!) I donate as much I can in time and proceeds to local rescues.

And Then There Were Three: Sienna was our first rescue pup, adopted outside a Petsmart from a woman who ran a shelter out of her home, which is no longer operating. Becks and Ellie are both from Atlanta Pet Rescue, one of the most amazing no-kill, cage-free rescues in Atlanta. We got Becks about nine months after Sienna, and we lived in apartment at the time so we were essentially looking for a “mini-golden,” a dog with a golden temperament and look but who wouldn’t feel as cooped up in an apartment. Ellie joined us in 2010 when we fostered her because she looked so much like Becks, and then we couldn’t give her back!

Therapy, Singing and Species Switch, Oh My! Ellie is a therapy dog certified through Therapy Dogs International, and since Becks and Sienna needed hobbies too but are a little shy for therapy work, they both take regular agility classes. Ellie bays like a beagle to let you know she’s excited you’re home, Becks MUST carry the nearest toy in his mouth to express any form of excitement, and Sienna thinks she’s a cat; she actually prefers cats to dogs, kneads her beds, and walks in window sills.

Where: Atlanta, Georgia

  7. Love this shot! I have a similar one of my Sophie kissing me while I’m reading a book about a dog. 🙂 I know someone in Ohio with a rescue… will give her your info!

  8. I love the proportions of that first photo. I thought Becks was a full, huge lab, but it wasn’t until that second photo you realize how tiny she is. It makes Sienna look huge!

Thank you so much for the kind comments! We are honored to be part of the R.O.A.R. Squad. 🙂 Shauna and Lisa – the show was called Tail for the Pet Lover’s Heart. I’m not sure if you can watch the whole thing online, but the show’s website (there’s a second edition of the show now, I’m only in the first) has some clips with us here: http://talesforthepetloversheart.com/AboutShow.aspx

@Shauna – I spent a little more time on that website, and it looks like the whole show IS posted there! You have to wait awhile for the whole thing to load, but once you do, my segment is the very last one…but I would watch all the stories if you have time, it’s a cute show!
