R.O.A.R. Squad: Doreen and Caleb and their dogs Riley, Kiko and Millie

A huge welcome to the R.O.A.R. Squad to Doreen and Caleb! I love that they have two beautiful big black dogs (ever hear of Black Dog Syndrome? Big black dogs are usually the last to find homes at shelters- cats too)… and I’m not gonna lie. I’m lovin’ the puppy factor.

Welcome guys! Read more about this fab family and how to join the R.O.A.R. Squad (Rescue Owners Are Rockin’!) after the jump!

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Doreen and Caleb

Gorgeous Pups: Riley (mixed lab, 6 yrs), Kiko (Boston-Rat Terrier, turned 1 yr in May), and Millie (mixed mutt, 7 yrs)

About Doreen and Caleb: My husband and I both work in the medical field.  We own a cute little home in an historic part of the city we live in.  I was born in Pisa, Italy and grew up in Germany.  I lived there until 1991.  My husband is from Indiana.  We both love dogs, which is why we have three adopted furbabies. My (Doreen) blog is Doggies and Stuff.  I do product reviews and giveaways, as well as post information about pet welfare issues, adoptable pets, and highlight shelters and rescues every Friday.

Back to Health: Millie was discovered in a home and in a closet with the other pups from her litter.  All but three had died from starvation.  She was very sick when I got her at an adoption event and I had to nurse her back to health.  I took her to work with me every day for about 4 weeks.

Puppy Eyes: Riley was with her brothers at an adoption event and I had been thinking about another dog.  She had these big brown eyes and a stubby tail and I just couldn’t resist.  I fell in love with her the moment I saw her.

Just Looking: My husband and I were just looking at dogs on PetFinder.com.  We didn’t have any intentions of adopting, mostly because Millie is a very dominate female.  However, when we came across Kiko and her siblings we knew we had to have her.  We took a Saturday and drove 3 hours to get her.  The 3 hours turned into 8 both ways because construction was horrible.

All the World: Our three furkids mean everything to us.  It is my hope to move out of this little house and onto a farm, where I will be able to foster and rescue.

Where: We live in Indianapolis, Indiana

  1. Kari says:

Growing up we always had BBDs. Kiko sure is cute

  2. Kim says:

Yeah for rescuing BBDs! I,too, hope to someday move out of my little baby house and buy a big nice one on a farm and rescue/foster more animals. Someday… *dreamy sigh*

  3. @Kari- I had no idea BBD’s had such a hard time getting adopted out until about a year ago.

  4. Welcome to the squad Doreen – you are in very good company! :)

  5. All your pooches are so cute. I like the part about how Petfinder browsing turned into a new family member. I love browsing petfinder, though I don’t know if we’d have room for a 3rd…

  6. @Kim- I will be visiting… often… consider yourself warned… :)

  7. @Life- Thanks so much for your comment! The R.O.A.R. Squad is indeed a cool crew of people! :)
