well after sunset
I took this photo while I was walking the dogs last night. If you click the image it’ll get bigger. I think it looks a bit better bigger. Those are the parliament buildings all lit up in the background.
Quick tip: Walking your dogs on leash and taking photographs is not a match made in heaven. Maybe I should correct that: Walking MY dogs on leash and snapping photos is not such a hot idea. I’ve done it a gazillion times, that’s how I get photos of the dogs on walks. I guess the key here is the “leash” part. Right. Next time running through traffic it is.
Other than fixing up the alignment (frigging Kayloo yanked on me and the shot wasn’t quite straight… that’s right, I’m blaming it on the dog) and adding a “boost” of 5% I didn’t alter the photo.
The harbour sure is pretty, hey?
Hey! I should warn you that I am writing this at 1:14AM because for some reason my internal clock has decided that the middle of the night is a cool time to be completely 100% awake. This is an incorrect assumption… but nonetheless, here I am.
So far I have ordered a Groupon*, signed up for my free one month trial to Netflix* (I’m gonna watch Whip It and Tapped oh my God I think I’m going to watch Mad Men… I’ve never watched that show) and…
I’m not sure what the hell happened to the last hour and a half.
Know what I could have been doing right now? Editing photos. Writing something about the resolutions I’ve been thinking about (way to be on the ball with the whole bettering yourself, there Shauna! Wow. So, nearing 2:00AM is when I start to refer to myself in the third person. Good to know)… or I could, I dunno, BE SLEEPING.
Okay, I’m going to go stare at the ceiling right now.
I think I’ll wait until tomorrow (no wait! it’s today!!!) to hit “publish.”
Hopefully tomorrow I can get out of the house a bit earlier to catch more of the sunset. I damn well better not catch the sunrise.
*These companies have any idea who I am, those aren’t affiliate links or anything. Staring at these sites is just honestly what I’ve been up to AT 1 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING.

Beautiful picture! It looks like a post card! When we go for walks all we see is boring houses.
Fabulous photo! I love the alignment feature…it horrifies me to look at some of my older pictures and realize how crooked they are. And you’re right, it looks even more fantastic when you click on it.
Watch Mad Men! It’s awesome!
I love Whip It. It inspired me to join roller derby!
ha Ive never been able to take a pic while walking the monsters

Yippee for your brain not shutting up…I hate when that happens! Love that photo, just gorgeous.
Beautiful photo. I would love to have a pretty place like that to walk my dog but all we have here is the Hudson River which is definitely not as scenic at this point.
@Trixie- Thank you! Maybe my next job will be Postcard Photographer… ya never know…
@Lori- The vast marjority of the photos I have taken horrify me! Ugh, some of them are so horrid! Ah well, it’s how we learn
And thank you for the kudos
@Ashley- One of your roller derby posts was the first post I read of yours!
@Kari- I got okay with my point & shoot but I’m having to relearn everything with the SLR.
@Trude- Thank you!
@Peggy- Thank you! It is decidedly less pretty in the rain
I love that photo. We love our Netflix account, and we watched all of Madmen over winter break. It’s so addictive. It’s a good thing it was winter because we weren’t leaving or even sleeping.
Victoria, right? I visited there a couple years ago. My wife and I love BC!
@Two- Thank you so much! Did your Nikon arrive?
@Todd- On behalf of Victoria and BC, thank you so much! When John and I were deciding where we wanted to live we totally fell in love with this place
To solve the walking dog while taking picture thing, I let Sean take the pics. He’s better at it than I am, anyways.
Wow what an awesome picture! Like the buildings mirror in the water and that purple glow on the horizon. And all the lights, fantastic.
Did you use a tripod for this pic? It’s stunning!
That is a gorgeous photo! So blue! Even more so knowing you had a dog attached to your arm. One of the reasons Shiva has such a wicked sit-stay is because I stop to take photographs so much when we are out together. She is just used to it at this point.
Groupon? So weird. But kinda cool at the same time.
I hope you got some sleep!
@Karen- Well played, well played
@Kenzo-It is a really pretty harbour… that is one of the things I love about taking a picture, sometimes it really helps to bring out the “awww” in places and things that I haven’t seen in awhile.
@Angelina- Thanks, lovely! Kind of- my elbows were propped on a ledge
Plus I’ve developed a decent steady hand with all the practice taking pics with the dogs
@Kristine- Ah, “sit.” That’s a good one. I should try that.
Hmmmm… looking at this photo, I’m realizing just how blurry my banner photo is… live & learn…
I’m so jealous that you have that to look at on your walks. So beautiful! Sorry you aren’t sleeping, though, that’s a bummer. I love my sleep, so insomnia just might be my worst form of torture. But at least you get stuff done while you’re up at 1 a.m.!
What a beautiful picture! I have yet to take a picture while walking my dogs, but texting on my cell while walking them is a different story:)
Gorgeous!
Shauna – You take awesome photos (yanking dogs and dog leashes or not).
I WISH I had a place like this to walk my dogs and I WISH I actually could walk them in the middle of the night in the middle of January. At 2 degrees above zero right now I’m thinking a dog walk is out.
Okay seriously; that is one of the most beautiful pieces of photography I’ve ever seen! I’m not kidding! Not that you would want to sell it but, you definitely could. Seems to me the dogs were an asset
If you don’t end up loving Mad Men I will be surprised. And, I really should take advantage of the times I awaken at 1:00am in the morning – get some things done I’m so behind on. Instead, I keep trying to get back to sleep and toss and turn. Absolutely stunning photo Shauna – seriously the best I think I’ve seen from you.
@Heather- Thank you for your sympathy! Every now and then I fall off the whole sleep train which is a BUMMER. Ah well, always get back on eventually
@Jen- Any kind of multi-tasking I find impressive
@Pup- Merci!
@Mel- Thank you so much, I am really enjoying this whole SLR thang! My dogs are horrid in the cold, it is a very thing that doesn’t happen around here too often!
@Kim- Aww, thanks so much
I *love* my camera
Just watched the first 2 episodes of Mad Men… if life really was like that I would have gone nuts. Watching it makes me cringe!
Thank you again- your support is so awesome!
