R.O.A.R. Squad: Grace and Vincent and their dogs, Maeby and Zoey

A great big warm welcome to our latest R.O.A.R. Squad members, Grace and Vincent from California!

Grace is the talent behind Shine Pet Photos. Her work has been featured in The Bark Magazine, Modern Dog Magazine and the National Enquirer (among many others) and she regularly donates her time to photograph shelter pets in need of homes.

How rad is Grace? I am so excited to have these guys part of the R.O.A.R. Squad!

Learn more about this wonderful family and see more beautiful photos after the jump (there is a story about a pet psychic you are definitely going to want to read)!

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Grace Chon and Vincent Look

Gorgeous Pups: Maeby – 6 year old Whippet/Doberman mix; Zoey – 3 year old Formosan Mountain Dog mix

Maeby

About Grace: I’m a full time Los Angeles pet photographer. I combine my background as an advertising agency art director with my photography, creating modern, editorial-style portraits of people and animals. My clients now include ad agencies, magazines, publishing companies, TV shows, and celebrities. But what I love most is volunteering my time to take headshots of adoptable dogs for various rescue groups in Los Angeles – it makes my heart sing knowing that my little contribution is helping in the adoption of dogs that are desperately waiting for their loving homes.

A Dog in Need is a Dog in Need: I adopted Maeby from an adoption event outside a Petco in San Diego in 2007. She was a street dog from Mexico, brought to the states by a kind woman who regularly rescues dogs from the country. In 2008 I was ready to adopt a second dog and found the sweetest puppy online who looked so much like Maeby! It was love at first sight! But it turned out the puppy lived in Taiwan and was available for adoption through a program that finds volunteers in Taiwan to bring dogs to Los Angeles. I went to the airport a few months later to pick up my little Taiwanese baby and the four of us have been a happy family ever since. People ask why I’ve adopted dogs from other countries when there are so many who need homes in Los Angeles. I never set out intentionally to adopt international dogs, but I think a dog in need is a dog in need – no matter where they’re from!

Zoey

Fabulous Rescue Orgs: Zoey was rescued by an kind organization in Taiwan called Animal Rescue Team and I adopted her from St. Anthony’s Canine Rescue in Los Angeles.

Open Sesame: Maeby is like David Blaine when it comes to food – I have yet to figure out the magic tricks she pulls in pursuit of the almighty snack. I once left a case of raw honey on my coffee table figuring there was no way she could get into it – they were heavy glass jars with tightly screwed on lids. WRONG! When I came home, Maeby had magically lifted a jar out of the box and unscrewed the top. I came home to a sticky dog and an even stickier carpet.

Einsteinian: Zoey is partly a breed that’s native to Taiwan called the Formosan Mountain Dog. I never knew this breed existed until I adopted her! They are known to be EXTREMELY intelligent, and Zoey does not prove the stereotype wrong. She learned this trick (click to watch her trick in action!) in less than 5 minutes. And when she wants attention she’s not afraid to let me know (check out Zoey calling the shots!).

Maeby and her TWO pink beds.

A Pink Bed in Her Future: Maeby told her pet psychic (yes, she has a pet psychic! This is Los Angeles, after all) that she wanted a big pink bed, so we immediately brought her one. A few weeks later we bought Zoey a new pink bed so she wouldn’t feel left out. One morning I heard a commotion coming from the bedroom. I found our little diva Maeby had decided to take Zoey’s new bed, put it on top of her own, and use both at the same time. Apparently all pink beds in this household belong only to one dog!

Where: Los Angeles, California
