R.O.A.R. Squad: Amanda and Jaime and their dogs Charlie, Brooklyn, Isabella and Sally, and horse Ziggy

You guys, lookit! A HORSE!

I am super excited to introduce you to our latest R.O.A.R. Squad members from Kentucky, Amanda and Jaime! They have four gorgeous rescue dogs… AND A RESCUE HORSE.

I have only been on a horse maybe three times in my life but I love them. They are beautiful. I am just going to put this out there into the universe: If you have a horse and, oh I dunno, need a totally unexperienced rider to bumble around for a hour or two with your majestic and patient equine I’m your girl. I will make ridiculous cowboy jokes the whole time, use the word “wrangle,” and I might insist on wearing my decoration only cowboy boots but never mind all that. I’m your girl.

Back to the task at hand! Learn more about this wonderful family after the jump!

To learn more about the R.O.A.R Squad (Rescue Owners Are Rockin!), or if you would like to be profiled, all the info you need is HERE. A special shout out to the fabulous folks in Mississippi, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island– we need you!

Jaime and Brookie

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Amanda is a nanny and graduate student at Western Kentucky University studying Special Education. Jaime works for a company that embroiders hats and bags. We are both animal lovers and have many small rodent like pets and two large fish tanks. We live in a rural town just outside of Louisville, Kentucky.

Charlie of the Cuteness: Charlie is a 14 year old Border Collie/Chow Chow mix adopted from the Kentucky Humane Society at 10 years old. Charlie was the sad old dog that needed a home when we walked into the adoption site.  He like the rest was a spur of the moment decision due to cuteness.

Beautiful Brooklyn: Brooklyn is a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix also adopted from the Kentucky Humane Society at 4 months.  Brookie, as we call her, loves clothing if someone pulls one of her sweaters out of the basket she comes running and barking until it is put on her.  She also loves being in the car, this is in part to me, Amanda, taking her everywhere with me for the first 2 months of having her because she was ill and had to be hand fed and kept warm.

Blissful Bella: Isabella is a 1 year old Harrier mix adopted from the Pets In Need Society of Meade County at 6 or 7 weeks old.  Bella was supposed to be my little pocket sized dog, but turns out she is a cousin to the beagle that is tall and bred for running rabbits.  She is by far the most grateful to have been adopted.  She is also most vocal, with her beagle like howl she always has something to say!

Simply Sally: Sally is a 2 year old Jack Russell mix adopted from Meade County Animal Control after being caught as stray and being put on the death list for the week. When the family found out that the stray that had been running by the grandparents house was picked up by animal control they immediately called us.  Of course how could we let a perfectly good dog be wasted?  We went to bail her out of “puppy jail” and the rest is history.

Zealous Ziggy: Ziggy is a 20+ year old Quarter Horse adopted from a summer camp as a retired lesson horse.  I adopted Ziggy when she was looked at for retirement from the camp I used to work at.  She has some trust and weight issues, and the trust issues were making it hard for the camp to re-home her.  Fortunately I loved her and don’t care about her issues as she does trust me.

What a perfect adopted Kentucky family– a gorgeous horse and a pack of huntin dogs…who are really just snuggle bums.

  2. @Skye- I am *so* excited to feature a horse! Gorgeous family! 🙂

  3. I’ve never heard of a dog that wanted to wear clothes. And I love that you adopted a horse. I used to watch Mr. Ed all the time when I was younger, and it inspired me to start a fund because I wanted to buy a horse one day, though that never really turned out.

  4. Lavi says:

What a great family! It’s interesting that the horse is a rescue too. Good job to the two ladies for taking them all in and caring for them!

  5. Kristine says:

How awesome this family was able to rescue a horse! Unfortunately, I know a lot of them need help – it breaks my heart to know so many farm animals are in need of saving. If only horse adoption was easier. Like you, I have only been on a horse a few times but I loved every minute. They are such wise and amazing animals.
Great family. They sound like a lot of fun.

  6. Kim says:

Aww, I love them – all! Especially wonderful that they adopted an older dog and a horse! Hooray for Kentucky – more angels walking this earth in the form of humans. Hugs!

  7. @Two- You never know, you just might get yourself a horse one day!

@Lavi- I know, these guys do incredible work!

@Kristine- I can only imagine how fun their home must be 🙂

@Kim- I love reading about when people bring older animals into their home!
