R.O.A.R. Squad: Katie and Louis and their dogs, Gunther and Gus

A very warm welcome to the R.O.A.R. Squad to Katie and Louis from Mississippi!

When I was a kid we used to spell Mississippi over and over and over again. There is something very satisfying about that many s’s and i’s and a double-p all in one word. I’m not the only one who grew up doing this, am I?

Both Gunther and Gus were found abandoned- who would want to abandon these gorgeous boys?! Learn more about this wonderful family after the jump!

To learn more about the R.O.A.R Squad (Rescue Owners Are Rockin!), or if you would like to be profiled, all the info you need is HERE. A special shout out to the fabulous folks in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, the Yukon and Idaho. These are the last states, provinces and territories we need-  we really need you!

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Katie and Louis

Gorgeous Pups: Gunther and Gus- Both of our boys are country mutts! Gunther is about 7 years old. We think he has some German Shepherd in him. Gus is about 5 years old. We believe he is a beagle/cocker spaniel mix.

About Katie and Louis: Louis and I have been married for almost 4 years! We don’t know what we would do without our wonderful doggies! If possible, they go everywhere we go- even on late night Sonic runs for ice cream (for us- not them).

Gunther

A Timely Companion: Louis had finished college and in 2006, he moved 5 hours from Katie to pursue his first job in a small, rural community while she finished up her last year of school. The first weekend that Katie came to visit Louis, they found Gunther. He was wondering around in the woods and came upon Louis’s new house. Gunther was young and very skinny. It was obvious someone had abandoned him. He came to Louis at a time when he needed a companion at this new stage of life. We have had him for 5 years now. He has overcome being head shy… and heart worms. He is the most loyal dog you will ever meet. He gets very upset when he thinks he has disappointed us. He wants nothing more than to protect us and to be loved- with an occasional treat of course!

Gus

Here to Stay: Two years later Gus came along. Gunther and our neighbor’s dog were attacking him (as he was intruding on their territory). Louis ran out to save the poor little white dog who was causing all of the commotion. Gus had a collar on with no tags.

We called our neighbors, put an ad on the local radio station, posted signs in the community, and asked everyone we saw if they were missing this precious little dog. After one week, we realized he too had been abandoned in the country and decided this dog needed a home. We were newlyweds and already had one dog and a horse! We offered him to Louis’s parents, but we wouldn’t be able to meet them for another week or so. The day came to take him to meet his new owners, and we just couldn’t part with him. We have had Gus for 3 years now. He is the most adorable dog. He loves to cuddle, and he only wants to be where we are!

We know one thing for sure: Whoever abandoned our dogs in the beginning missed out on two really amazing dogs!

Pure Comfort: Gunther regularly sleeps on his back with all four legs in the air!

Dream Maker: Gus knows his mama has always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon; he is trying to recreate that for us in the backyard with all the holes he has dug!

Gunther and Gus deserve to be right where they are now! Two more beautiful angels on this earth helping animals – Horray for Louis and Katie!

  3. Kristine says:

They are so cute. Not just the dogs, but their great humans as well. It sounds like are awesome at appreciating every single moment they have together, even the not so pretty hole-digging ones. I love how Katie is able to look on the bright side. What fantastic adoption ambassadors!

  4. @Kari- Kayloo has random little spots on her nose too, love it!

@Kim- They are a very lucky family!

@Kristine- I think it is so fantastic- especially heart tugging that they were supposed to give Gus to their parents but couldn’t do it! Too sweet 🙂
