R.O.A.R. Squad: Millie and Andy and their dogs, Toby, Lucky, The Sheep and Pamiuq

Millie and Pamiuq

Welcome to our first rescue owners from Nunavut, Canada’s newest territory: Millie and Andy!

I met Millie through Nicole from the SPCA in the Northwest Territories who is also a R.O.A.R. Squad member. Millie is an incredible photographer and the work she and Andy are doing for the North’s animals is heartwarming and important.

Rockin’ Rescue Owners: Millie and Andy Traub (see more of Millie’s beautiful photos here!)

Gorgeous Pups: We have four dogs, Toby our 10 year old Nova Scotia Duck Toller; Lucky our 4 year old Husky (we rescued him from starvation), The Sheep our mix breed (we rescued him from the local dump) with unknown age, but we think he is between 5 and 7 years old. The latest addition we got is Pamiuq who is a huge husky mix. We got him in spring 2010.

A Little Bit More About “The Sheep”: The Sheep looks like a Muskox in regards to his fur/hair in the winter. Since the Muskox are from the Sheep family, my husband came up with this name. He is a great dog, very gentle and a true survivor.

The Sheep

Cambridge Bay Diamonds in the Ruff: We are helping and supporting the local pet population as much as we can. We are called the Cambridge Bay Diamonds in the Ruff, and we hold fund raisers, find new homes for the unfortunate and unwanted, bring in veterinarians to provide vet services to our pet population and we are building a dog shelter.

Absolute Characters: All four love to run on the Tundra and chase rabbits or birds. Toby and Pamiuq love the water and like to go swimming, where Lucky and The Sheep are a little bit more shy of the water and just go in up to their belly. Toby is our “inside” dog, Lucky, The Sheep and Pamiuq stay outside and they don’t mind the cold temperatures we experience in the winter, which is 8-9 month long.

Where: Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

Welcome to you, Millie and Andy and your BEE-YOU-TI-FUL pups!! Wow they are gorgeous. This story has a special place in my heart as my family lived in Cambridge Bay when my twin sis and I were ages 4-7 so of course your Diamonds in the Ruff organization and photos jumped out at me; I remember that wonderful tundra as a kid. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Kim says:
