pregnant chick: 40 weeks (at the beach)

The 40 week pregnant belly! This was taken at the beach on my EDD: Sunday, March 25. The day came and went without a baby. Obviously. As I’ve been reminded repeatedly, it’s called an ESTIMATED Due Date for a reason: It’s an estimate.

At the pregnant chick get together I go to every week (it’s called the Pregnancy Happy Hour at Mothering Touch– if you’re in Victoria and pregnant you should totally go) we received the excellent advice to keep planning non-essential but lovely things on and around your due date to help keep you busy. Since a completely normal time to deliver is anytime 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your EDD, clearing your calendar could result in going stark raving mad with nothing to do but stare at your ever-stretching misshapen navel.

So, on Friday I went to the Pregnancy Happy Hour and then out for some tasty Indian food with girlfriends. On Saturday John and I ran some errands, went for brunch, walked the dogs and then went to see Mission Impossible at IMAX (it was okay- the ginormous screen and salty popcorn made it worthwhile). On Sunday a few more errands before heading to the beach with the pups.

At about 38 weeks I was getting nervous about my water breaking in public. I have since gotten over this. Worst case scenario my water DOES splatter in a very public manner… and I get an entertaining story out of it to share with y’all. I just make sure to wear my black cargo pants when I walk the dogs now. Look at me covering my bases.

When I’m out doing my thing and I tell people when I am/was due I’m getting a lot of “aren’t you brave to be out and about!” I think this is code for “please don’t sneeze while you’re so close to my shoes.”

I am wearing a real live maternity top in this photo. I’m not a particular fan of this top. I bought this shirt from a second hand shop at the beginning of my pregnancy and have done fairly well since then avoiding things that scrunch at the sides (also maternity: this and this). Although not particularly becoming, the scrunching DOES help to keep the bottom of the shirt down under my belly where it belongs rather than up under my armpits where it DOES NOT belong, which is what often happens with regular tshirts. Translation: this is a good dog walking shirt.

Pregnancy is so glam.

Off to go work on week 41…

Can’t wait to see pics of the baby…so excited for you! Not much longer! Your mom must be excited! Is she planning to be there soon after baby arrives??

    • My mom is VERY excited 🙂 I think this waiting is harder on her than it is on me! Yep- the plan is we ring her when things start to get going… I can assure you there will be all kinds of pics all over F&W as soon as my fingers are rested enough to press the shutter button again 🙂

    • Yeah, I’ve decided if it happens I will TRY to make the best of it and have fun with it. John has promised that if he is with me he will pour water all over the front of himself in solidarity 🙂
